Papermind App

A collaborative document and file management platform that integrates with Slack

Getting started

Inspiration

For inspiration, I analysed brands with simple user experiences and focused on clean, usable interfaces. At the time, brands such as Medium, Slite, Tettra, HiBob, Canvas, and Slack were particularly successful and popular. Studying their approaches provided valuable insights into effective design strategies.

User goals

As a small business owner, I want a centralised workspace so I can provide employees with the necessary tools to contribute actively to business growth.

  • Integrates with popular third-party tools
  • Competitive pricing

As an employee, I want access to company information so I can perform my tasks effectively.

  • Access the company resources
  • Add, edit and share documents and files
  • Search and filter capabilities

As an administrator, I want to ensure the company workspace is secure so our information is protected.

  • Login with existing Slack team account

Wireframes

I began with high-fidelity wireframes for the Papermind app, enabling the developer to build the application while I commenced the design phase.

Design

Prioritising the main features

I prioritised the core features, interface, and navigation to establish a solid foundation for product development. These elements directly influenced user interaction.

Style guide and component library

Before working on the Paperminds App, I completed a brand phase to develop the logo and the primary brand colours.

I made decisions regarding visual elements, including grids, scalability (ensuring the design functions well across various screen sizes), typography (such as fonts, sizes, and styles), and icons (used for navigation or conveying information).

Signature approval flow

To address the complexity of implementing a signature approval workflow within Papermind, I mapped out the user flow and provided email templates for all scenarios, which helped facilitate the testing.

Redefining and feedback

I identified areas for enhancement and refinement, leading to updates that improved the overall user experience of the Papermind Slack app.

Summary

I assumed various responsibilities encompassing design, UX, project oversight, and product testing. Additionally, I led the branding, design, and development of the website and managed other promotional materials.

Despite the lack of allocated testing time, our extended team collaborated effectively, allowing for thorough testing and valuable insights.

One of the project's highlights was collaborating with an exceptionally talented developer.

Challenges

Being the sole designer for a small business owner poses unique challenges that require adaptability and resourcefulness. With many design responsibilities, I had to balance these varied tasks. However, it also offers opportunities for growth and learning as a designer.
